Part 6 – Install Google Analytics

Google Analytics is an essential for every website, if you don’t know your website’s usage then it is pointless having a website.  Thankfully the WordPress Plugin makes it really easy to install.  You will need a Google Email account to access Google’s free services such as Google Analytics.  If you don’t have one, then please go to mail.google.com and sign up before proceeding with this tutorial.


  • In your WordPress Plugin section click on the Add New Button then type WP Google Analytics link

  • Check WP Google Analytics is found and then click Install Now

  • Click OK to allow WordPress to Install WP Google Analytics

  • Once WP Google Analytics has been installed click Activate Plugin

  • We need to alter some settings so on the bottom left hand side click Settings

  • Click on Google Analytics

  • You need to paste your Google Analytics Tracking code in the box …..  You do have your Google code??  OK Skip to the next picture and we will go through the process of obtaining a Tracking Code from Google.

  • Log into your Google account and then in Google Analytics, You need to click on the Add Website Profile option

  • Type your web address into the box

  • Click on the Finish button

  • You will be given your tracking code

  • Highlight and copy the text

  • Go back to your WordPress website and paste the code into the box provided by WP Google Analytics plugin

  • To save your code click the Update Options Button

  • Now Click Save and Finish

  • Your Tracking code should now be on your website, but Google Analytics will show a warning symbol which means it has not found it yet

  • On teh right hand side you will see an Edit button, click on this

  • Now tell Google Analytic to check for your tracking code by clicking on the Check Status

  • You should receive a message like this to confirm that Google Analytics found your code.  If you don’t please retrace your steps and make sure you haave done everything required.

  • To view your report simply click the view report option.  There will be no data to view for at least 24 hours though.
